We are Auburn University’s premier programming event organized by students, for students. With this hackathon, Auburn University's Computer Science & Software Engineering strives to promote technical innovation and highlight students’ skills and abilities. Partnering with Major League Hacking (MLH), we aim to bring out the best and brightest students, not just from Auburn University but from other universities all over the United States.
On February 12-13, 2022, this 24-hour, full-steam-ahead event will challenge participants to learn, think outside the box, and push the limits on what they can build using technology.

TSYS Challenge: Payments on Web 3
In an era in which privacy is of great importance
and people are becoming distrustful of centralized solutions, what can be done? Enter web 3.0.
The web 1.0 era of the internet from 1991 to
2004 was mostly static pages read-only. This was similar to Wikipedia's interlinked static pages. Internet users went to the internet to get information.
From 2004 to the present day, Web 2.0 has grown
rapidly. Web 2.0 has made it possible for users to have an interactive experience. We pulled information from the web pages and sent information back to the web. As a result, centralized organizations were able to collect information from us to serve us related
content and keep us longer. Aggregated user information was also saleable to marketing agencies. This gave rise to targeted advertising and a lack of privacy.
As we are still in the very early stages of
the development of Web 3.0, there is no official definition. The objective of web 3.0 is to enable users to own their content through blockchain technology and decentralization tools. Theoretically, users are in complete control of their data. Digital identity
is not entirely connected.
Considering Web 3.0 is still relatively new,
expecting life-changing innovations all at once is not practical. To create a series of ideas that grow together, engineers will have to think outside the box.
We encourage all the participants to build any
application they want related to the financial payments industry in the next 24 hours and a bonus would be to align it with Web 3.0
The winning team will have each member earn an Oculus Quest 2!
